The Kishwaukee Kougar baseball team start the 2016 season off with a bang, as they beat the #12 team in the country.

KC Kougars beat Lincoln Land 8-4 on Saturday at Springfield, IL behind Matt Albert, who went 1-3 and hit a home run.

He homered in the eighth inning.

Lincoln Land's lineup had no answer for Austin Broyles. Lincoln Land managed just one hit off of Broyles, who allowed no earned runs, walked four and struck out six during his four innings of work.

The top of the third saw KC Kougars take an early lead, 3-0. KC Kougars' rally started when David Salguiero singled. A stolen base then moved Salgueiro from first to second. Jared Johnson doubled, scoring Salgueiro. KC Kougars then tacked on more runs when Johnson scored on a groundout by Albert and DeLacruz scored on an error.

Lincoln Land scored three runs of its own in the third. Lincoln Land scored on an RBI double byTyker Ring, an RBI double by Conor White, and an RBI single by Jake Morsch.

KC Kougars stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the fifth, scoring one run on an RBI single by Gary Garcia.

After posting one run in the sixth, KC Kougars again scored one in the seventh. In the sixth, KC Kougars scored on an RBI single by Cooper Vinz, bringing home Juan Casanova.

KC Kougars built upon its lead with two runs in the eighth. Vinz doubled, plating Johnson to start the inning. That was followed up by Albert's solo home run.
