Kishwaukee stuns #1 Nationally ranked Rock Valley 84-79

The Kishwaukee men's basketball team earned a huge win Tuesday night by defeating the defending NJCAA Division III National Champions & #1 nationally ranked Rock Valley College by the score of 84-79.  The win moves the Kougars to (7-2) on the season and extends their current winning streak to 5 games.  The entire game was a hard fought contest from the opening tip until the final horn sounded.  The Golden Eagles would strike first scoring the first 4 points of the game but the Kougars would come right back and score 10 of their own in a row to take an early lead.  Kishwaukee had a hard time getting good looks offensively with Rock Valley's tough half-court defense. The Kougars lead would slowly erode as Rock Valley took advantage of strong play around the basket and good offensive execution.  The Golden Eagles would take a 43-36 advantage into the locker room at intermission while shooting 64.3% from the floor and 57.1% from the 3-point range.  The Kougars were led by sophomore point guard Bryson Butler(Lincoln Park HS) at the break with 10 points followed closely by sophomore forward JoVonte Peals(Marquette HS) with 9 points and freshman guard Deshaun Jackson(Peoria HS) with 8 points.  The second half began almost like the first half ended with the Golden Eagles taking charge and increasing their lead to 13 points at 51-38.  The Kougars would buckle down while using a mix of defenses and pressure slowly chip away at Rock Valley's lead before tying the game with 4 minutes remaining to play.  The second half would be as hotly contested as the first with both teams using every ounce of energy to gain an advantage.  Kishwaukee would start to see some life in their offense by moving the ball better and playing inside-out more against Rock Valley's 2-3 zone.  Kishwaukee would get (3) big three point shots in the comeback from Butler to help force Rock Valley to come out of their zone.  Down the stretch the Kougars would get just enough defensive stops while forcing nine timely steals, and converting just enough free throws (16-23) in the second half to stay ahead.  The Kougars would finish the night with three players in double-figures led by Butler's 24 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals.  Jackson would contribute 18 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals; while Peals finished with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals.  The big win was a true team effort as 9 of 10 players scored and the team committed a season low of 10 turnovers on the night.  The Kougars have a quick turnaround as they will be back in action on Thursday night at 7:30pm hosting Trinity Christian JV at Kishwaukee College.
