Kishwaukee Wins 2015 Region IV Championship and Advances to 2015 NJCAA National Tournament

 

 

The Kishwaukee men's basketball team defeated #1 seeded Triton College 74-69 in the Region IV Finals to earn a berth into the NJCAA National Tournament in Danville, IL. The Kougars had a slow start trailing most of the 1st half against the #4 nationally ranked Trojans. Kishwaukee was down 33-27 at the half but never trailed by more than 8pts in the game. In the 2nd half Kishwaukee clawed its way back taking a lead late in the half and outscoring Triton 47 to 36 for the win. Many players played well in the victory including 6' 7" sophomore forward Andre Harris(Dekalb HS) 17pts and 11rebs; 6' 4" sophomore guard Juwan Starks (West Aurora HS) 19pts, 8rebs, and 2stls; 6' 0" freshman point guard Yashua Trent (Willowbrook HS) recorded his 2nd "Triple-Double" on the season with 13pts, 12rebs, and 14asts; 6' 3" sophomore guard Floyd Williams(Chicago Hyde Park HS) 11pts, 3rebs, and 2asts. Sophomores Juwan Starks & Andre Harris both were named All-Region IV Tournament and Starks was also voted Region IV Tournament MVP honors. Triton & Kishwaukee had a memorable regular season match-up where Triton was able to squeak out a 108-107 double overtime victory in Triton's home gym.

With the victory the Kougar's (28-5) advance to the 16-team NJCAA National Tournament. Kishwaukee has been awarded the #5 seed in the National Tournament and will open up 1st round action against Lansing College (23-9) from Michigan on Wednesday March 18th at 1:00pm. The 2015 Region Championship is Kishwaukee's 3rd in school history and 1st since Coach Buss' team won the title in 2010. After winning the Region IV Championship in 2010 Kishwaukee went (2-2) at the National Tournament and finished in 6th place in the country.
