Kougars stay close but run out of steam in fourth quarter

January 11, 2024 - The Kishwaukee College Womens Basketball team opened up Arrowhead Conference play Thursday night against Highland CC in Malta.  The Kougars battled back from as much as 14 points down after the first quarter score of 28-14 to as close as 2 points in the third quarter.  However, HCC outscored Kish 29-16 in the final quarter while outrebounding them 63 to 39 overall for the game on the way to an 87-67 score.  Kish was led offensively by Emily Gilbert with 24 points and 8 rebounds while Kira Klapprodt added a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.  Raven Meeks and Mariah Drake pitched in 8 and 7 points respectively.  Kish provided strong defensive pressure in the second and third quarters by, Chardae Bell, Ariana Smith (5 rebounds and 5 assists), and MeKiyah Davis (3 blocks).

With the loss, the Kougars move to 4-9 overall and 0-1 in the Arrowhead Conference.  They will travel to Olive Harvey College on Saturday (weather permitting) before returning home to battle Sauk Valley CC in another Arrowhead Conference clash on Tuesday, January 16 at 5:30 pm.
