Softball gets convincing sweep over Arrowhead Conference foe

March 27, 2025 -  The Kougars won big over Sauk Valley Community College 11-0 in a five inning run rule for game one of an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader on Thursday in Dixon. Kishwaukee got on the board in the top of the first inning after Ana-Kate Phillips homered to center field, scoring three runs, and a fielders choice RBI groundout by Haley Von Schnase led to one more run scoring. Kish added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Reilee Suter doubled to center field, and Phillips singled down the left field line, each scoring one run, then in the third they added one more run after Abby Stoffa had an RBI grounded out.  Alyssa Wilkerson earned the shutout win for the Kougars in the circle. The starter gave up just one hit over five innings, striking out four and walking none.  Overall, Kishwaukee collected 11 hits in the game. Phillips and Kailey Goetz were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in three runs. Goetz led Kish with three hits in three at bats. Bella Koertner and Suter each collected multiple hits.

In game two, Ana-Kate Phillips cointinued her torrid hitting on the day as she drove in five runs on four hits to lead Kishwaukee past the Skyhawks 14-1 in five inning run rule. Phillips doubled in the second inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the fifth inning, scoring two.  The Kougars got on the board in the top of the first inning after Bella Koertner scored after tagging up, and Kyra Johnson singled to right field, each scoring one run.  Kish then added three runs in the second. Phillips doubled to center field, making the score 5-0. A ground out RBI by Lilli Delhotal extended the lead to 6-0 in the top of the third inning. Five more runs came home on five hits in the top of the fifth inning. Koertner singled, scoring one run, Phillips singled, scoring two runs, and Haley Von Schnase singled, scoring two runs.   Johnson earned the win for Kishwaukee as she surrendered just two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out two and walking one. Laila Anderson had one inning of relief for the Kougs. Kishwaukee tallied 15 hits in the game. Lillie Gebel, Johnson, Koertner, and Von Schnase each collected multiple hits for Kishwaukee as Koertner and Reilee Suter led the team with two bases on balls each. Koertner stole three bases as Kish stole seven bases in the game.  

The Kougars (11-7 overall and 4-2 Arrowhead Conference) will next host Kankakee CC Saturday (weather permiting) then make up an earlier rainout doubleheader at Illinois Valley Monday, March 31 as they return to Arrowhead Conference action.
