Softball splits final regular season DH on Soph Day

May 6, 2023 – The Kishwaukee College Softball team hosted Oakton CC Saturday in their final NJCAA Region 4 regular season doubleheader in Malta.  It was also Sophomore Day for the Kougars as Kishwaukee Athletics recognized Reese Ward (Sycamore HS), Samantha Koper (Oregon HS) , Katie Taylor (DeKalb HS), Kendal Ansteth (Rochelle HS), Mia Richards (Sycamore HS), Eden Lindenmeyer (Amboy HS), Kayla Wiedemann (Farmington Central HS) and Kya Logston (Byron HS) in a ceremony with their families ahead of game one.  On the field for the first game, Kishwaukee would jump out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning. Kish would wrap up the game early by run rule with a 4-run spot in the sixth inning to win 12-4.  Kendall Ansteth (2 for 4, 3 runs scored) and Katie Taylor (3 for 4) had 4 and 3 RBI respectively to lead the Kish offense.  Teammates Eden Lindenmeyer (3 runs scored, 2 RBI) and Mia Richards (run and RBI) had multiple hits while Jalyna Polichnowski (2 runs scored) Kya Logston (run, RBI) and Kayla Wiedemann all contributed a hit apiece.  Reese Ward went the distance in the circle for the win with 6 strikeouts. 

In the final game of the doubleheader, the Kougars would again jump out early in the first inning with Wiedemann and Lindenmeyer crossing the plate for a 2-0 lead but would surrender the lead with 3 runs by the Owls in both the 3rd and 4th innings.  Kish would try a valiant comeback in the bottom of the seventh scoring 3 runs but only to come up a run short 8-7.  Kayla Wiedemann (HR, 4 RBI, 2 runs), Eden Lindenmeyer (run) went 4-5, and Kendal Ansteth went 2 for 4 with an RBI to lead Kish.  Linnea Nelson (RBI), Mia Richards (run), Kya Logston, Reese Ward (2 runs) and Samantha Koper tallied hits for the Kougars as well.

The Kougars will await NJCAA Region 4 seedings to determine playoffs next week beginning May 9
