Offenses dominate as Kishwaukee College outscores Lake County 9-8

 

Kishwaukee College and Lake County lit up the scoreboard on Sunday as they combined for 17 runs. In the end, Kishwaukee College won the offensive battle 9-8 in seven innings.

The teams combined for 21 hits, including 10 extra base hits.

Kishwaukee College held off Lake County, as Lake County was unable to overcome a five-run fifth inning deficit.

Lake County scored four runs in the seventh on a home run by Duncan Amrein. Still, Lake County couldn't draw even.

David Salgueiro got on base three times in the game for Kishwaukee College. He scored three runs and had one RBI. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the fourth inning.

Ricky Rodriguez got the win for Kishwaukee College despite allowing seven runs over 6 1/3 innings. Rodriguez struck out seven, walked three and gave up nine hits.

Derek Nelson took the loss for Lake County. He allowed nine runs in five innings, walked two and struck out two.

The top of the first saw Lake County take an early lead, 4-0. Dominic Cuevas kicked things off for Lake County with a single. An error then moved Cuevas from first to second. Freddie Landers singled, plating Cuevas. The scoreboard lit up again for Lake County when Landers, Torres and Amrein scored on a three-run triple by Sean Wilson.

It didn't take long for Kishwaukee College to answer as it scored four runs of its own in the first. Kishwaukee College scored on an RBI double by Jared Johnson, an RBI double by Cooper Vinz, an RBI double by Austin Allende, and an RBI single by Gary Garcia.

Kishwaukee College didn't relinquish the lead after scoring two runs in the second inning when it scored on a groundout by Johnson and an RBI single by Salgueiro.

Kishwaukee College added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. A single by Vinz ignited the offense, scoring Salgueiro. That was followed up by Matt Albert's double, bringing home Vinz.
