Chargers lineup unloads on Kishwaukee in conference sweep

GALESBURG — Austin Wiegand totaled three home runs for the weekend and the Carl Sandburg College baseball team erupted for 40 runs in an Arrowhead Conference sweep of Kishwaukee as the Chargers took on Southwestern Illinois on Friday and hosted the Kougars on Saturday.

KEY MOMENT
SWIC struck for 10 runs in the opening inning as the Blue Storm took advantage of five Chargers walks and popped a pair of home runs

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Austin Wiegand collected a pair of RBIs with a two-run single in the third.

KEY MOMENT
The Chargers had seven batters reach safely in a in a five-run fourth inning to get within 15-11, but SWIC put up six runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game via the mercy rule.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Wiegand reached four times in the contest, going 3 for 3 with a walk, three runs scored and a solo homer.

KEY MOMENT
Up 5-1 in the third, the Chargers plated a dozen runs and sent 16 men to the plate. Jose Narvaez drove in two with a triple, and Jace Wilkerson, Noah Wolf and Payton Hankins each had doubles in the frame.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Left fielder Diego Castillo was one of five Sandburg players with three hits in the contest, and he was one of two with five RBIs. He finished 3 for 4 with a triple and two runs scored.

KEY MOMENT
Leading 3-2, the Chargers used another huge third inning to complete the sweep. Sandburg put up 10 runs in the frame, highlighted by back-to-back homers from Narvaez and Wolf.

Designated hitter Anthony Nino was a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate. He doubled twice, scored a run and knocked in a team-leading four.
