Chargers Cruise by Kougars, Improve to 3-0 in Conference

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College women's basketball team improved to 3-0 in Arrowhead Conference play as four Chargers reached double figures in an 88-58 throttling of Kishwaukee on Thursday at John Lewis Gym.

KEY MOMENTS
• Sandburg (14-5, 3-0) trailed just once in the contest, in the early moments of the first quarter. The Chargers had a 12-0 run in the opening period after they grabbed a 21-10 lead after the first quarter. The early run featured a pair of driving layups by freshman Gabbie Vontz and a spinning finish by Kelci Shelton for a bucket.
• The Chargers' lead bulged to as many as 40 points in the second half. All 11 Sandburg players finished with at least one field goal in the victory, and the Chargers forced the Kougars into 27 turnovers.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Vontz led four Chargers in double figures, scoring 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting. The freshman also grabbed six rebounds and collected two of Sandburg's 17 steals. Vontz finished a bucket away from matching her season-high for points.
