Pyle goes yard again, but Kougars’ Game 2 rally sweeps Chargers

MALTA — Hannah Pyle homered in a third consecutive doubleheader, but the Sandburg softball team saw a lead slip away late in Game 2 as Kishwaukee swept the Chargers in a pair of Arrowhead Conference contests Tuesday.

Key moments
The host Kougars scored in each of their four times at bat, including solo home runs in the first and third innings.

Sandburg standout
Second baseman Mary Hellige had a base hit in both of her turns at the plate. Hellige singled in the second and again in the fourth.

Key moments
• The Chargers jumped to an 8-0 lead in the second inning. Bailey Ryan's leadoff walk and Ailexa Hunter's one-out triple set up Pyle for a three-run homer to left-center that put Sandburg up 3-0 in the first.
• The Chargers added five more runs in the top of the second. Key hits in the frame were an RBI double from Alexis Brammeier, a run-scoring base hit from Pyle, Hellige's RBI double and a Paige Huffman single that made it 8-0.
• Kishwaukee pulled within 8-6 heading into the bottom of the sixth before jumping ahead with a six-run inning. The Kougars tied the game with back-to-back homers to lead off the inning, and they took the lead two batters later on a Chargers error.

Sandburg standout
Pyle finished 3 for 3 with a walk, her three-run homer, two runs scored and three driven in. The freshman infielder has four homers in the last five games and pushed her average to .481 for the season.
