Kougars Mens and Women’s Cross Country compete in “virtual” relays

September 15, 2020 – The Kishwaukee Women's and Men's Cross Country teams competing Tuesday in a unique "virtual" relay organized by Rockford University.  Multiple four-year colleges including Beloit College, Concordia University-Wisconsin, Elmhurst University, Edgewood College and Wisconsin Lutheran participated with Kish, St Charles (MO) Community College and host Rockford University among others.  The Kishwaukee Men's team finished 11th in the overall team standings with individual split times of 16:14 for Nick Fiore, 18:54 for Bryce Guerrettaz, 20:08 for Liam Pitney and 20:29 for Mark Shaver.  The Kougars Women's team members posted strong times of 21:55 for Anne Hickey and 24:49 for Lydia Myers.

Current protocols and guidelines have made creative scheduling and ideas for teams to compete this Cross Country season commonplace. The Rockford University "Virtual Relay" had teams running their own race at their own location at their own time with just their team members. Colleges then divided their squads into pairs and each pair alternated running a mile loop until all team members complete 6 miles total, or 3 miles each.

Both Kish teams return to "live" event status when they travel to Normal, Illinois Friday to compete in the Hawks Invite hosted by Heartland CC and then a return trip to Normal for the Heartland Challenge meet on October 9.
