Lady Kougars Soccer hang tough; lose close one versus Eagles

August 22, 2019 - Kishwaukee College Womens Soccer took on the Illinois Valley Community College Lady Eagles in their first match of the season Thursday night in Malta. A late first half goal by IVCC provided the margin of victory in a 2-1 game.  It was a close battle throughout as Hope Akers (DeKalb), Herwine Lamelus (Port Au Prince, Haiti), Amanda Ortiz-Beckett (DeKalb HS) and Litzy Murrieta (DeKalb HS) provided offensive pressure on the Eagles goalie all night and with some big shots on goal in the second half that were turned away by the Eagles keep.  Emma Rourke (DeKalb HS) provided the first team tally of the year in the first half while defensive stops came in key stretches by Olivia Napiorkowski (Genoa Kingston HS), Meghan Johnson (Aurora Central Catholic HS), Dulce Resendiz (DeKalb HS), Jessica Gamez-Quintero (DeKalb HS) and Sarai Orozco (Genoa Kingston HS).  Avery Mertz (DeKalb HS) picked up where she left off from last season in goal with multiple saves to keep Kish close.  "I think we had a number of good moments tonight and I think the players have an idea of what we need to do to get better for the next match," said Womens Soccer Head Coach Brenton Joseph.  "We will keep working and I am excited to see how we grow from today and get ready for a good challenge from South Suburban next week."

Kishwaukee (0-1 Overall) will travel to South Holland, Illinois to play South Suburban College on Tuesday, August 27 and then to Chicago Heights, Illinois on Friday, August 30 to take on Prairie State College.  The Lady Kougars next home match will be on September 6 versus Oakton Community College.
