Kishwaukee storms back late to defeat Elgin CC

December 19, 2019 - The Kougars Women's basketball team spotted the Spartans to a 28-18 halftime lead in Elgin Thursday night.  But their frenzied rally in the last 2:30 of the game was the difference. Kish, which had been down as many as 18 points and three different double digit deficits throughout the game, got one out of two free throws by Dennysha Kizer which cut the Elgin lead to 47-51 with 2:36 left.  Addie Kitzmiller grabbed a steal and pushed up the floor to Lauren Kawall who hit a deep left corner three to cut it to 50-51 with 1:09 left.  On the next inbound Cesca Vardman stole the ECC pass but an errant Kish pass wound up in the hands of the Spartan defender who was forced into a turnover herself with the constant pressure to give the ball back to the Kougars, then Vardman hit a runner in the lane.  The shot gave Kish it's first lead of the game at 52-51 with :58 seconds left.  After a Kougar timeout Andra Bracy of Elgin was fouled on the Elgin inbound and she made 1 of 2 charity tosses to tie the game at 52.  The Spartans had a couple chances just under :35 seconds but Kitzmiller pulled down another rebound to lead the pack down the floor and finding Morgan Baker who hit the go ahead basket with :33 left and a 54-52 score.  Vardman again came up big with a steal on the Elgin possession and got it to Baker who was fouled with :06 left.  Baker hit one of two free throws but Vardman secured the rebound and the win on the miss as the horn went off on a 55-52 win.

The Kougars were led in scoring by Baker who finished with 16 points and Vardman with 12 points.  Kizer added 9 points and 16 rebounds while Kawall totaled 8 points.  Lani Morris pulled down 12 rebounds and Kitzmiller finishing with 5 assists and 5 rebounds.  Mariel Franco led Elgin with 27 points.

Kishwaukee (4-7 overall) have their final game of 2019 versus Morton College in Malta Saturday, December 21 with tip off at 1:00.  The Kougars will then hit the holiday break before returning on Thursday, January 9, 2020 to compete in their first Arrowhead Conference tilt versus Illinois Valley Community College at home.
