Kougars drop two to Sandburg, Sweep Triton to close out week

March 30, 2019 – The Kishwaukee College Women's Softball team played two doubleheaders last week against top region teams in Carl Sandburg and Triton College.  The Kougars lost to Arrowhead Conference foe Sandburg 7-3 and 12-0 but bounced back on Friday sweeping the doubleheader against Region IV perennial power Triton 9-6 in ten innings and the nightcap 6-5.

In the doubleheader against Sandburg, Helena Porter led Kish with four hits between the two games.  Hailey White and Shaylee Clow collected two hits on the day.  Larisa Smits struck out 10 Sandburg batters in game one giving up just 5 earned runs.

The Kougars then travelled to River Grove to take on Triton College and they had to play extra innings to take game one.  Kish led 4-3 going into the bottom of the seventh when Triton plated the tying run.  Kishwaukee responded with two runs in the eighth inning only to have Triton pick up two of their own.  But in the tenth inning, Kish tallied three more runs and held on for the 9-6 victory.  White (3 for 5, 2 runs, 1 RBI), Porter (2 for 5, 3 stolen bases, 2 runs) and Amanda Ross (2 for 4, 3 runs) led the offense.  Smits pitched all ten innings allowing five earned runs and striking out four.

In game two Alexis Ramon (2 for 3, 2 runs scored) and Faith Roush (2 for 3, 1 RBI) led the attack for Kishwaukee for the 6-5 win and doubleheader sweep.  White, Clow, Alexis Gordon and Jessica Meyers crossed the plate as well for Kish.  Ramon went the distance in the pitching circle as well to pick up the victory allowing only two earned runs and striking out seven.

Kishwaukee (5-8 overall, 0-2 Arrowhead Conference) takes on a couple Arrowhead Conference rivals this week as they travel to Oglesby on Tuesday to face Illinois Valley before returning home on Thursday to play Black Hawk College.  Both doubleheaders are scheduled to start with first pitch at 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm approximately for game two each day.
