Kishwaukee College Softball splits first two games of southern trip, season in South Carolina

March 11, 2019 – The Kishwaukee College softball team split their first two games of the season as part of their opening spring trip week down in South Carolina.  The Kougars beat Rowan College at Burlington County in the first game of the day 9-7 and lost a close one in the nightcap 4-2 against USC-Salkehatchie in Myrtle Beach.  

The Kougars took the lead late in the game one to earn a 9-7 victory over the Barons.  Kishwaukee scored four runs in the fourth inning. Jessie Meyers, Helena Porter, and Faith Roush each had RBIs in the big inning.  The game was tied at seven with Kish batting in the bottom of the sixth.  Lexi Gordon singled which scored the go ahead run.  Kishwaukee collected eleven hits off Rowan College pitching.   Hailey White went 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored while Roush and Gordon each went 2 for 4, Meyers went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and Porter collected a hit, a run scored and an RBI.

Larisa Smits got the win for the Kougars in the circle.  She went all seven innings, allowing six hits while striking out five.  

In game two, the Kougars scored in the top of the first after a triple by Shaylee Clow (2-3, 1 run and 1 stolen base), Lexi Gordon hit a sharp grounder to bring in Clow.   The Indians would have a big inning of their own in the fourth plating four runs.  The Kougars were able to get one back in the top of the fifth inning with a two out rally on back to back doubles by Taelor Schmitz (1 RBI) and Hailey White (1-2, 1 run) to draw the game closer at 4-2.  That would be as close as the Kougars would get.

Faith Roush pitched 3.2 innings with a strikeout and one walk and Alexis Ramon finished the final 2.1 innings with 0 earned runs allowed. 

Kishwaukee (1-1 overall) plays tomorrow in two games.  The first against USC Sumter at 9:00 EDT and their second game of the day against Lehigh Carbon Community College at 1:00 EDT.
