Kougars take Arrowhead Conference title after beating IVCC

October 21, 2023 – The Kishwaukee College Men's Soccer team hosted Arrowhead Conference rival Illinois Valley CC on Saturday which was the last regular season match for them.  The Kougars would take a 1-0 lead over IVCC at the 31:47 mark of the first half on a goal by Ayman Farah.  The teams would battle throughout the rest of the game but that would be the final score and a Kish winner. Freshman Andrew Davison (Kaneland HS) picked up the shutout in goal while Sophomore Ethan Scheidecker (DeKalb HS) and Sophomore Emmett Boyce (DeKalb HS) played solid in the back row along with a slew of Kougars.  The win gives the Kougars the Arrowhead Conference title, for the first time in program history, by goal differential over Carl Sandburg College.

"I am incredibly proud of the guys and this achievement. They are a part of history," Newquist said. "This group has had some trying times this season. But when they are on their game, they are an excellent team and capable of beating anyone. Heading into Saturday, the guys knew they had to win against an IVCC team with an excellent record, and they rose to the challenge. They deserved that moment, and I am so proud of how they responded to our challenge to win the conference."

The Kougars finished the regular season 6-5-2. They head into the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 4 postseason with a first-round rematch against IVCC at 12 pm Saturday, Oct. 28, on IVCC's home field at La Salle-Peru High School.

"We have all the tools to make waves in the postseason tournament. I hope we can go ahead and win this weekend and keep that momentum going," Newquist said.
