Kougars topple Kennedy King in overtime for home opener

August 22, 2019 - The Kishwaukee College Mens Soccer team played a back and forth tough match versus visiting Kennedy-King on Thursday afternoon.  The match would go into overtime with the Kougars pulling out a late goal to earn the hard fought victory 3-2.   Alex Barajas (DeKalb HS) got the scoring going early in the match for Kish and a 1-0 lead.  However, Kennedy-King would tie it just before the half.  The second half saw Josue Almaraz (Rochelle HS) tally the go ahead goal but Kennedy-King fought back to tie once again and send it to overtime.   After an intense battle to control the ball in front of the Kishwaukee goal late in overtime, the Kougars got a break away down the sideline and a winner by Jessee Infante (Rochelle HS).  Genaro Rodriguez (DeKalb HS) was strong in goal for Kish along with the Kougar defenders from the opening kick through to the extra time.

"I thought we showed good intensity throughout," said Mens Soccer Head Coach Brenton Joseph. "We definitely had some lapses, especially on their [Kennedy-King] scores, but I liked how we fought in front of our goal and transitioned for the game winner in an overtime situation!  It's good to get that first win and in our home opener!"

Kishwaukee (1-0 Overall) will host the College of Lake County this Saturday, August 24 with kickoff at 12:00 pm before travelling to Oglesby, Illinois on Monday, August 26 to take on Illinois Valley on the pitch beginning at 4:00 pm
