Kishwaukee Baseball adds three big wins this week with victories over Sandburg and South Suburban

 

April 19, 2018 - The Kishwaukee Baseball team picked up big wins over tough competition this past week snapping out of a six game losing streak.  On Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of Arrowhead Conference rival Carl Sandburg College, the Kougars won 5-3 and 6-5 and handing Sandburg their first losses in conference play.

 

Dylan Smith (2 runs scored), Tommy Hansen (1 run sored, 1 RBI), Joseph Locascio (run scored) and David Villafane (RBI) each collected hits in game one.  Alejandro Vieiro went six strong innings giving up just three hits and three earned runs while striking out six for the win.  Trevor Sanchez picked up the save with one inning of work. 

 

The nightcap featured a balanced lineup of hits by Matthew Morgan, Jonah Artiles, Tommy Hansen, Khalil Harris, Alex Soto, Tavaris Terrell and David Villafane.   Joseph Locascio picked up two hits and drove in two runs.  Julian Hidalgo, Jan Mattei and Jonathan Hook combined on the mound to preserve the win for the Kougars.

 

Kish stayed at home for game one on Thursday versus District rival South Suburban where Kish came up victorious 2-0.  Tavaris Terrell was 2 for 2 and plated both runs for Kish as Khalil Harris (1 RBI), Locascio  and David Villafane added a hit each.  Marc Soto (5-3 record) pitched all seven innings with 8 strikeouts and no walks for the win.

 

In game two, South Suburban jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after one inning of play.  Kishwaukee would counter throughout the rest of the game to bring it to a 6-6 mark in the 9th inning before it was called due to darkness.  David Villafane was 3 for 5 (run scored, RBI) while Jonah Artiles and Khalil Harris produced two hits and an RBI each to lead the offense.  Evan Sutta, Jacob Perkins, Shaun Johnson and Jonathan Hook battled on the mound to hold off any more scoring from South Suburban.

 

Kishwaukee (21-17-1 overall, 4-6 conference) will go on the road this weekend to take on Illinois Valley on Friday and Sauk Valley on Saturday in doubleheaders.  Kishwaukee will also be hosting this year's NJCAA Region IV, Division I Regional Tournament on May 10-13.
