De la Fuente’s 2nd-Half PK Gives Chargers 4-4 Draw With Kougars

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College men's soccer team settled for a 4-4 draw with Kishwaukee in a wild Region 4 contest Wednesday afternoon at Kleine Field.

The Chargers raced to a 3-0 first-half lead but surrendered four unanswered goals before pulling even in the second half for the final score.

Sandburg opened the scoring with a goal by Saul Etienne off an assist by Mario Segura Munoz, and Felipe Augusto Da Silva made it 2-0 with a penalty kick in the 24th minute. Etienne added his second goal of the match with an unassisted tally in the 28th minute for a 3-0 Chargers lead.

Kishwaukee's rally began with a Khori Miles header off a corner kick in the 35th minute. The Kougars then struck for three more goals in the opening 7 minutes of the second half for a 4-3 lead.

Sandburg, though, pulled level in the 53rd minute with a penalty by Rodrigo De la Fuente as he calmly rolled one into the left side of the net.

The Chargers had a golden opportunity for the game-winner in the 89th minute as Etienne made a centering pass to Matteo Rissato Prado in the middle of the box, but his shot was turned aside.

Sandburg totaled 12 shots on goal in the match, with Etienne, Prado and Matthew Roach each putting two on frame. Jack Oliver made five saves in net for the Chargers.
