Cyclones post perfect record in Region IV Crossover tourney

The Region IV Crossover Tournament Sept. 13-15 was a big test for the Cyclones, and they passed unscathed, going 6-0 overall.

Their first obstacle was a competitive Carl Sandburg College. The Cyclones lost to them in the regular season last year, but bested them at nationals. This rematch was destined to be intense, and it was in a five-set thriller where the Cyclones prevailed (20-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-23, 15-7). The fifth set saw a focused and ready squad that shut down the Chargers' big middle. If they continue to perform like that, they'll go deep this season. Brianna Knezz led the team with 16 kills. Noelle Knezz collected 14 kills while Abbigail Fletcher amassed 10 kills and 23 digs. Amanda Bulow (11 kills), Taylor Bulow (25 assists) and Lauren Gausselin (21 digs) also came up big in this game.

The Cyclones then faced Illinois Valley Community College, winning 3-1 (25-12, 22-25, 25-10, 25-17). More of the bench players saw action to seal the win. Fletcher and Amanda Bulow each had nine kills, Noelle Knezz had 11 kills, Taylor Bulow finished with 23 assists and Gausselin dug up 19.

On Saturday, Moraine Valley continued their tear with a quick 3-0 win over South Suburban College (25-12, 25-17, 25-20). Noelle and Brianna Knezz each had 10 kills, Fletcher collected eight kills, Amanda Bulow chipped in seven kills and Taylor Bulow tallied 32 assists.

They finished the day with another 3-0 victory over Kishwaukee College (25-16, 25-21, 25-21). Fletcher totaled 12 kills and 24 digs. Noelle Knezz notched nine kills, 16 assists and four aces while Lauren Gausselin gathered 28 digs and four aces.

The Cyclones registered two more wins Sunday, first 3-1 over a tough Sauk Valley Community College (23-25, 25-20, 25-11, 25-9) before going 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-22) over Black Hawk College. In the first game the Cyclones had a slow start but turned it up by the end. Fletcher had 15 kills and 20 digs, Brianna Knezz finished with 14 kills, Noelle Knezz added 18 kills, Lauren Gausselin had 22 digs and Taylor Bulow provided 28 assists. The game against Black Hawk was another quick defeat that saw the bench players get more time on the court.
